Safety and code compliance
Generator work is permitted, inspected electrical work. A transfer switch or interlock is required so the generator can never backfeed the utility line, which is what puts line crews and your own equipment at risk.
We install to the National Electrical Code and to local Shelby County and municipal requirements, pull permits where they apply, and coordinate the inspection so the system is signed off properly.

Generator questions we hear
Do I need a whole-home generator or will a portable work?
It depends on what you need to keep running and for how long. A portable generator with a properly installed inlet and interlock can cover a refrigerator, a few circuits, and some lighting. A standby unit starts automatically and can carry HVAC, well pumps, and larger loads. We do a load review before recommending either one.
How long does a standby generator installation take?
Most residential installations are completed in one to three days on site once the equipment, permits, and gas connection are in place. The overall timeline depends on equipment availability and inspection scheduling.
Do you service generators you did not install?
Yes. We perform maintenance, load testing, battery and fluid service, and repairs on existing units, including systems from other installers.
Is a transfer switch really required?
Yes. A transfer switch or interlock keeps generator power from backfeeding the utility line. Backfeed is a serious hazard to utility crews and to your own equipment, and installations without it will not pass inspection.
What does a generator cost?
Cost depends on the size of the unit, the fuel source, the distance from the panel, and the transfer equipment. We provide pricing after an on-site assessment rather than quoting a number that will not hold up.
